DHI Hair Transplant: Direct Hair Implantation with the Choi Pen
Hair transplantation has become one of the most effective solutions for those suffering from thinning hair. Among the latest advancements in this field is the DHI (Direct Hair Implantation) technique, which is gaining popularity for its precision and ability to treat smaller, more specific areas. This method is also known as the Pen Technique or Choi Pen Direct Hair Implantation.

The Procedure
In the DHI technique, hair follicles are first harvested from the donor area using the FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) method. These follicles are then immediately reimplanted into the recipient area. The key innovation behind DHI lies in the use of a specialized tool – the Choi Implanter Pen. Developed by researchers at Kyungpook National University in South Korea, the Choi Pen allows for the direct implantation of hair follicles without the need for pre-made incisions.

The Choi Pen, which features a hollow needle at its tip, surrounds the graft as it is inserted into the recipient area. This tool facilitates the precise placement of each follicle, making it ideal for transplanting in smaller areas where accuracy is crucial

While the DHI method has gained popularity for its speed and precision, many experienced surgeons, including those at our clinic, remain cautious about its application. Despite having full mastery over the technique, they often prefer manual implantation with the slot technique, which allows for better control over follicle placement and ensures a more natural hair pattern. While the Choi Pen is ideal for certain smaller, targeted areas, the manual approach is often favored for achieving a harmonious and aesthetically pleasing result.
