Sweating Botox

Sweat Botox is a specialized treatment used to reduce excessive sweating, medically known as hyperhidrosis. It involves injecting botulinum toxin (commonly known as Botox) into areas of the body that sweat excessively, such as the underarms, hands, feet, or face. The treatment works by temporarily blocking the nerves that trigger sweat glands.

Pre-Treatment Consultation
Before starting treatment, a consultation is necessary to confirm the diagnosis of hyperhidrosis and rule out any underlying medical causes. Your doctor will examine the affected areas and may perform a “sweat test” to determine the extent and location of excessive sweating. The consultation also includes a discussion of medical history, expectations, and potential side effects.

Before and After the Treatment
The procedure itself is quick and minimally invasive, typically lasting 20–30 minutes. There is little to no downtime, and most patients return to normal activities the same day. Mild swelling, redness, or bruising at the injection site is common but temporary. Results begin to appear within 3 to 7 days, with full effect in about 2 weeks. The dryness usually lasts 4 to 6 months, after which repeat treatment may be needed.

Who Can Benefit from Sweat Botox?
Sweat Botox is ideal for individuals suffering from excessive sweating that interferes with daily life or causes social anxiety. It’s suitable for people who:

  • Experience sweating that is not controlled by antiperspirants

  • Sweat excessively even when not hot or physically active

  • Want a non-surgical, temporary solution
It is commonly used on the underarms, but can also be applied to palms, soles, or forehead.

How is the Treatment Performed?
The treatment is performed in a clinical setting without anesthesia, though a numbing cream may be applied for comfort. A very fine needle is used to inject small amounts of Botox into the skin across the affected area. The number of injections depends on the size and location being treated. The procedure is generally well-tolerated.

Treatment Options for Sweat Botox
While Botox is one of the most effective non-surgical treatments for hyperhidrosis, other options may also be considered:

  • Prescription-strength antiperspirants

  • Oral medications (anticholinergics)

  • Iontophoresis (especially for palms and feet)

  • Microwave therapy (MiraDry) for permanent sweat gland reduction

  • Surgical options in severe cases (e.g., sympathectomy)
